In his 20-year career as a screenwriter and producer, Blake Snyder sold dozens of scripts, including co-writing Blank Check, which became a hit for Disney, and Nuclear Family for Steven Spielberg. His book, Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need, was published in May 2005, and is now in its twentieth printing. Blake conducted sold-out workshops and seminars around the globe and consulted for Disney and DreamWorks. Along with guiding screenwriters, novelists and other creative thinkers, Blake's method has become the "secret weapon" of many development executives, managers, and producers for its precise, easy, and honest appraisal of what it takes to write and develop stories in any media. Blake Snyder passed away in August, 2009, but he lives on in his films and his books, in the advice that will never grow old, with the spirit that will continue to thrive and inspire.

Please Don't Kill Your Career With This Book

This is a book thats concepts are so easy to grasp that it excites you to think that screenwriting isn't that hard. You can read this in a day and it will give you confidence to write but will not make you a better writer. If you are writing screenplays for fun, this will be fine for you. If you plan on breaking into the business of Hollywood or independent film making, RUN! Honestly you'd even be better off learning from Egri's The Art of Dramatic Writing. Bottom line, if your not a student forced to buy this book for a screenwriting class, please don't waste your time and money. If you do have to buy this book as the main reference material for your screenwriting class... drop the class.
Better Options: The Art of Dramatic Writing, Dramatic: a New Theory of Story, The Playwright's Guidebook, Wordplayer.com.

If you aspire to write Legally Blonde 2: Lost in New York, then this is your Book!

I was excited to read this because of all the positive reviews and I appreciated his writing style, however, the rules and insights he offered were very unappealing. It seems to encourage writing scripts that only contribute to the oversaturated, formulaic movies that get released every other week. I understand that he is trying to teach you what screenwriting techniques have worked for the masses over the years, but for my purposes, I'm not interested. The movies that I tend to be drawn to don't follow these rules. But then again, I'm not trying to sell scripts I'm trying to make good movies. Maybe I wouldn't be as bothered by it if he didn't write in such a "matter of fact" way.

BAD cover quality

I was disappointed to open the package (which was sealed properly) to find the cover of the book layered in some kind of dirt, smudges, and sticky gunk. At first glance, the inside of the book appears to be clean and in order, but the cover is most definitely NOT.
