More epic Drizzt--and more matron machinations

Truly enjoyed Jarlaxle in this, although in the end he is not quite the maestro promised. Entreri is a shadow of his former self (pun intended), a bitter and angry bit part. He should have been more, but apparently he will never recover from his imprisonment in Menzoberranzan. Drizzt is more confused than ever. His disavowal of Meilikki and his arrogant hubris of self righteousness seems to be leading ever downward.
Still, he is the greatest warrior of all, and although the battles are perhaps less well choreographed (possibly excepting the fight with Tiago) the Hunter continues supreme.
But ultimately, the book is founded on the greatest of machinations by the greatest of matron mothers... And that is ultimately what frustrated me. Wheels within wheels without clarity or conclusion, a grand finale without explanation, and a yet another ' to be continued' anticlimax. Too many threads were not tied into the narrative, like whatever became of Marilith and Lolth, what happened to the House wars and the members of Dahlia's 'house' and how come they let the symbol of male independence rise higher than ever and let him walk away?
A good read, lots of twists and action, yet somehow not quite satisfying. I never quite got to the "oh, YES!!!" Hopefully he can work it all out in Hero!

Salvatore is the real Maestro! *Spoilers*

Fantastic Book!

Although I have felt that the endings to certain recent books felt a bit rushed and questionable character decisions were made in the last quarter of certain books - this one had great pacing and was very hard to put down all the way through although it doesn't exactly dispel those same concerns.

*Major Spoilers*

Pros:
THE Climactic Tiago fight. Finally. I loved the end of that fight. Blows his head off and proceeds to drops the mic!
Catti-brie. She is given time to shine on her own as a character and I'm sure more of that is in the works despite the foreshadowing.
Artemis Entreri & Jarlaxle. Those two being a huge part of the book is always a great thing even if its not a "fun" quest
The Matron Mothers. The dark intrigue and political power struggle of Menzo is where R.A.'s novels often truly shine best.
Huge Character Set. So many great characters and many you thought wouldn't ever be brought together in any way.
There is a moment when Jarlaxle & Artemis are down and Drizzt is still fighting. Keep making him look stronger than he has recently please.
The Tiago Fight. Already mentioned it once, but it was about time this happened and worth the price of the book alone.

Cons:
The Demogorgon fight was a bit unexpected. Never thought Drizzt would fight him one on one. Not a satisfying fight in any way.
Drizzt being a tool. Whether it was the emo act or the way he was used as a tool in the end, it made him look too weak after he fought well.
Cattie-brie is OP. This is clear to everyone and has been mentioned several times already by reviewers.
Gromph. Love him being a major player in these books but despite his wisdom he is questionably often a petulant buffoon here.
Game of Thrones. Obviously an influence. Tried to spice up the controversy level with sexual actions in this book. Comes off weird.
Heroes: These once vanilla & wholesome characters are all being darkened up a bit too much at times to be believable
Bruenor. He's not around much in this book and casts some foreshadowing that he may not remain around for too long anyway.
Wolfgar & Regis. They are not present at all, but I don't know if that is a bad thing as there are so many characters are in this book.
A Mother near-death. She should have died. But that would have ruined the balance of the ruling mothers established I guess.
Yvonnel. Feels way too powerful and she is like an emo love struck teenager when it comes to Drizzt. Because. Reasons.
Jarlaxle. Always has a plan and is supposed to be the Maestro, but any notions of that seem lost after the first quarter of the book.
The Let Go. The heroes are captured but unceremoniously let go at the end. The enemy is made to look not only too strong but unwise.
Entreri, Jarlaxle, & Drizzt journey together. As great as that sounds, the journey wasn't an enjoyable one for any of these characters.

The Cons listed (though they are many) are mostly minor to me. The Pros listed all VASTLY outweigh them. Again, some questionable decisions at the end. There was also some foreshadowing of a horrible act that I hope doesn't ever happen at the hands of Drizzt.

This was a page turner for sure. One of the better recent books and I am looking forward to the next! Thanks R.A.

Maestro

(Minor spoiler perhaps) It felt a little rushed in some areas, as if conclusions to massive problems spontaneously came out of thin air without any real explanation for the sudden revelation. I also felt that considering the massive force of destruction the prince of demons Demogorgon is as a being that he was underutilized and didn't play as big a role as I think a character such as this should. Regardless of this I loved the book as I have every "legend of drizzt" book from start to finish.

An overview, of course, but it does cover a lot of ground...

Environmental science isn't for dummies, even though there is a Environmental Science For Dummies book. This book will not teach you environmental science, since it is a combination of geology, ecology, population biology, climate science, botany, conservation biology, oceanography, and more, including the basic sciences of chemistry, physics, and math.

This book is, however, a good overview of the topic. Are you interested? Do you want to know more? This book may help you with a career choice, or with getting you started to learn more about a particular subject.

There's an emphasis on sustainability and sustainable living. This may or may not be considered environmental science. I'm happy to call it applied environmental science.

Author Alecia Spooner got a few things mixed up. For example, she defines "environment" as "all living and nonliving things that interact in a specific area." Then she defines an "ecosystem" as the "living organisms and the environment that they inhabit and depend on for resources." So when you combine these two definitions, she seems to define "ecosystem" as "living organisms and all living and nonliving things that interact in a specific area that they inhabit and depend on for resources." She's really defining ecosystem both times.

But I did like her observation:

"Regardless of your political or cultural beliefs, the facts are the same:
- Billions of people have only one planet to share
- All human beings depend on the natural resources of the Earth to survive."

And she does discuss the "precautionary principle," an important concept in conservation biology.

I'll keep this one on my bookshelf to lend out.

Dummies for Earth

This is only one reader's opinion...

Okay, this is the kind of book someone should consider picking up if they want to read more about 'What's the deal with the environment and the science surrounding it?"

I've read a number of Dummies books over the years and what I like most about them is the accessibility and organization.

This book gives a nice breakdown of the areas of environmental science. I like that it starts out with a half page of "Where to go from here" so as to direct the reader to places of particular interest (i.e. what brought them to this book in the first place).

Overall, found this digestible and accessible for those who are curious, but not ready for an academic format.

More Important Topic than Most Realize

Nikola Tesla had predicted how long World War I would last by observing the relationship between the populations of the countries fighting, military strengths, and the logistic growth model, which this book explains in detail. It goes further into discussing the "carrying capacity" of environments. It was the exhaustion of its environment that began the fall of the Mayan culture, long before the contact with the Old World. Cultures clash and die off based on the carrying capacities of their environment.

The point is if we wish to survive, we must understand our environment. This understanding requires the science facts of air, soil, water, as well as human factors to cooperate and collaborate for a sustainable future.

Epistemes―the background knowledge, ideological and normative beliefs, and shared assumptions about how the world works―determine who has a voice in global trade governance.

Showing how NGOs succeed only when their advocacy conforms broadly to the dominant episteme, this book will be of value to scholars and students with an interest in NGOs and international trade negotiations. About the Author

Erin Hannah is Associate Professor of Political Science at King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. She is an international political economist specializing in global governance, trade, sustainable development, poverty and inequality, global civil society, and European Union trade politics. She has published articles in Journal of International Economic Law, Journal of Civil Society, Journal of World Trade, Politics, and Third World Quarterly. Raymond J. Bishop, S.J. (January 15, 1906 February 1978) was a Roman Catholic priest. One of the several priests involved in the case of exorcizing a boy in St. Louis, Missouri, who was said to be possessed after using a Ouija board. The case inspired author William Peter Blatty to write a novel about exorcism, titled The Exorcist and then a movie based on a diary of these events. In 1949, Father Bishop assembled these accounts in form of a diary from 14 priests that were eye witnesses to the exorcism which is presented here in this book. This book is for research and teachings on the subject of possession. This diary is unedited and reveals the facts of the actual case. Christopher Saint Booth is a an author, producer and director of films and documentaries for Syfy, Chiller, NBC Universal, Redbox, Spooked TV Productions, At&t, Vimeo, Apple iTunes, Netflix, Roku and more worldwide. He also is the CEO of Spooked Television. Films include Dead Still (Syfy), Death Tunnel (Sony Pictures), The Possessed, Spooked, Children Of The Grave (Syfy Channel/NBC Universal), The Exorcist File-Haunted Boy (Redbox), Children Of The Grave 2, Soul Catcher and DarkPlace. Worth the Investment in your Child's future!

So, My high-school aged son is dead set on joining the military. His school offered the ASVAB and he did well. Unfortunately, the choice MOS' require extremely high ASVAB scores. Knowing that we went and convinced the recruiter to retest my son. This book as well as the flashcards (another brand) helped immensely! My son's retake did the trick by teaching him in subject areas where he had no previous exposure such as electronics and automotive. Money well spent!

Amazing how much I learned from this

I bought this with the asvab flash cards and I'm proud to say I scored an 89 on my overall and I scored nothing lower then 78 in all 9 subjects of the asvab ! I highly recommend it if you want to have a big selection when it comes to joining the military

I got this book for my son to help him score as high as he can on the ASVAB test. It is very easy to understand and comprehend. He is already able to answer questions correctly that he couldn't before. I recommend this study guide to anyone who is wanting to increase their score on the ASVAB test. I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion and review. The lack of cost did not sway my opinion or review in any way. I would have posted the same review if I had paid full price for this product.
